Mickey Guyton Talks Motherhood & Postpartum Depression

Mickey Guyton is on top of the world.

Delivering a one-two punch, the country singer has been using her voice to speak her truth in phenomenal and vulnerable songs. She also has a new baby!

In a recent interview with Cody Alan, Mickey shared how reclaiming her identity hasn’t only been a factor in her music but also in her new family.

“One of the things that was so hard and that I wasn’t prepared was the 4th trimester,” says Mickey candidly. “That’s something that not many people speak about, and they should.”

“The first month after I had given birth, the first three, were really difficult,” says the “Black Like Me” singer. “Like, healing, figuring out how to be a mother, it’s hard. There were so many times that I was crying alone in my bedroom and postpartum is a real thing that a lot of people don’t talk about.”

“A lot of times, like as a mom, or when you are first pregnant, everyone is catering to everything you need. But, then, you have the baby, and they send you on your way like, “Good luck! Thank you, NEXT!” So, then you are forced to be like, “What am I supposed to do?” So that was something that was really hard, but I got through it, and now I am here.”

Mickey is loving her new role as mom to sweet, 7-month-old Grayson.

“My favorite moments are watching him view the world. It’s so cool,” says Mickey. “It was super rainy yesterday, and you know, we live in LA full time now, so it doesn’t rain that much out there. So when we came here, and it was raining. We took him out on the patio and to watch him be so excited about rain. You know, we are just like, “Oh, it’s just raining,” but he thought it was so cool and was just quiet and watching it.”
