Sam Hunt's DUI Court Appearance Canceled, Trial Set For March

Sam Hunt did not appear for his court date set for Friday morning (January 17) to answer to DUI and open container violations following his arrest in November. The country star will now face a trial on the charges in March.

A Davidson Country clerk told Radar Online, "the case has been bound over and transferred to a higher court." Court records in Davidson County, Tennessee, reveal Hunt is now scheduled for a trial on both the DUI and open container chargers on March 17, 2020 at 9AM in front of Judge William Higgins.

No clear reason has been given for why the case is being moved to a higher court. "It just depends on what he and his attorney worked out," the clerk states.

Hunt was arrested early on the morning of November 21 after 911 calls reported a black SUV driving the wrong way down Ellington Parkway in East Nashville and speeding. Nashville police pulled Hunt over shortly after receiving the calls. When they found him, the singer was swerving in and out of his lane.

According to court documents, Hunt had two open containers of beer in the car with him, smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. He also handed police his credit card and his passport when asked for a drivers license.

The arrest warrant indicated that Hunt's blood alcohol level was .173. The legal limit in Tennessee is .08. He was charged with driving under the influence and possessing an open container.

Hunt was booked into Metro Nashville jail around 6:30AM local time that morning, and released on $2,500 bond around 9AM that same morning. He later issued an apology which he called the incident "a poor and selfish decision."

He continued, "I apologize to everyone who was unknowingly put at risk and let down by it. It won’t happen again."
