Love And Theft's Stephen Barker Liles' Mother Dies After Struggle With ALS

Susie Barker Liles Burchett, who was the mother of the Love And Theft duo's member Stephen Barker Liles, died on Tuesday (November 5) after a three year battle with ALS.

"The love from the country music and ALS community has been overwhelmingly comforting to me and my family," Barker Liles stated in a press release. "We are so grateful for all artists that have donated their time at events to help raise awareness for this devastating disease. Her memory will live on in all of our hearts and in our ALS charity forever."

Following Burchett's diagnosis in 2017, the country music community partnered with the ALS Association of Tennessee to put on two Shine for Susie Benefit Concerts in Nashville and Clarksville. Canaan Smith, Parmalee, Lauren Alaina, Florida Georgia Line and more artists performed at the shows which ended up raising funds and awareness for those affected by the illness.

"Lights that burn bright never burn out. She made her mark on me through her unwavering faith in Jesus. I’ll always remember and cherish her kindness to me and my family," said Canaan Smith. "Her prayers will live on and not return void. God bless you, sweet Susie. Time to go dancing with the angels."

Burchett is survived by her husband, ex-husband, five children, three stepchildren, and eight grandchildren. Services and visitation will be held in the morning on Monday, November 11 at the First Baptist Church of Clarksville, Tennessee. Smith and Lauren Coplan will perform music during the service.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to express their condolences donate to the Shine for Susie ALS Fund by Hark-ALS.
